Rey And Finn Vs Kylo Ren
Taking “like” to mean romantic attraction, neither. Consider, from a purely in-universe perspective:. Finn and Rey are like family. In Finn, Rey found the first person that gave a damn about her. However, it’s clear that these two are quite incom.

Ok, this will probably seem odd to a lot of you, but I am a new Star Wars fan; I have very recently watched all the films and noticed something in The Force Awakens. The Force Awakens was the first Star Wars film that I had ever seen, so I had very little clues about the Star Wars universe before that.
Now, as a person who was not familiar with Star Wars, when I saw the scene where Kylo Ren has captured Rey and interrogates her, I sensed some sort of.attraction? My first thought was: I think this dude is attracted to her. Especially when he says 'I can take whatever I want.'
It seemed a bit rapey. There was sexual tension from my point of view. Now that I have seen all the films it got me thinking, wouldn't it be odd and kind of awkward if they were paired together as a couple? I'm not saying they will be or should be, but Kylo Ren could have been harsher with Rey but he seemed to hold back. He even carried her in his arms (weird, considering that she is his enemy). What do you guys make of it?
I don't know why, but that interrogation scene gave me the impression that he has some type of attraction towards her. There has been a ton of meta written about the parallel journeys of Rey and Kylo and how their running into each other heavily influences the other. It does not necessarily mean that Rey and Kylo will end up as the romantic couple of the ST – though personally I love the possibility for its it epic potential – but I firmly believe their relationship is going to be the single most influential one for each character's trajectory and the ST's plot. The beauty of it is that you can see it from either character's POV.
Rey is the heroine in the story we see, but Kylo is the hero in his own story, and now they are intertwined. Rey first sees Kylo in a vision and she bolts, terrified of the destiny he embodies. He is the one that triggers her conscious awakening to the force, and in the end she figuratively and literally wrenches her destiny from his hands and defeats him.For Kylo, things are going reasonably well until he runs into this random girl who he keeps hearing about, and somehow he blunders and screws up from the moment she enters the picture. He is fascinated, distracted and finally bested by her, and it turns his world upside down. Rey is now the 'villain' in his personal story, his obstacle, his weakness, in a way his own father never was.
Lego Rey And Finn Vs Kylo Ren
To advance in any direction, he will have to face her again.Whether or not 'Reylo' is really so skeevy, or if it's going to be beautiful and uplifting, heavily depends on what will happen from now on and what the writers have planned for Kylo's character. If he is redeemed, it will happen through Rey / for Rey's sake, of that I am 100% sure. But they also may drag him to a deeper dark, in which he sees her as an embodiment of everything he tries to stamp out in himself (compassion, admiration, love etc) and makes a horrible example of her. That would indeed be the canonisation of a sick obsession in which Kylo does not see Rey as a person, but a symbol and living embodiment of his own weaknesses that is to be eradicated, a kind of Frollo to Rey's Esmeralda perhaps. But even though Disney ventured into such dark waters in The Hunchback before, I don't think that's what the ST has in store for these two characters. I rather think the opposite will happen - Kylo's admiration for Rey will sway him from his path and he will be saved by the purity of that feeling, like Vader was saved by the purity of love for his son.Meanwhile, what Kylo means, or will mean to Rey hinges heavily on what she will discover about herself and her origins, to which I dare not make a guess at this point. Perhaps - depending on what he does - her hatred for him will grow to such a degree she will go dark (we got a taste if that already). Perhaps his mere continued existence challenges her ability to embrace Luke's teachings.
Perhaps he will actually support her in a crucial moment and change her view of him entirely. Either way, I will be honestly surprised if Kylo does not play a pivotal role in that journey.Tl;dr, I think the reason this particular ship inspires such passion on either side of the fence is because people's opinion of and expectations for both characters involved are deeply wrapped up in it. Will Kylo be a villain of vaderish proportions or a woobie pushover? Will Rey be a proud Skywalker, hero of her story, or just some feeble love interest for 'Crylo Ren'? Either way some people are going to be upset so I hope Lucasfilms/Disney just focus on telling a great story, and leave the rest to fandom. What a great analysis!
I think you made some great points. One thing I can definitely see is Kylo maybe going to the light side because of Rey (no need for her to be a love interest), and Rey still rejecting him.I really don't think Rey would ever get past Kylo killing Han right in front of her. Tally erp.9 release 6.2 universal patch.
I think that she might be the Luke, and he is the Vader, who let's his emotions come in and lets himself go to the light side.I also hope that they just focus on telling a good story, after all, that's what they are working for! Thanks for your input!.
Yeah, as short as the acquaintance was, seeing Kylo kill Han right in front of her will definitely be a hard thing for Rey to get over. On the other hand, if she cultivates her hatred and her resentment, it may hinder her in embracing the force positively. To not face Kylo in fear and anger, to forgive him, might actually be essential to Rey becoming a Jedi - forgiveness is a HUGE topic in Star Wars after all. Through love and forgiveness, Luke saved Anakin. Through it, Rey might just save Kylo (even though, as you said, it could still mean she ultimately rejects him). That's why, shipping aside, I find the idea of Rey finding compassion and forgiveness for Kylo much more beautiful if she is not his cousin. It would be the kindness of a stranger, freely given when she had no obligation and no reason to.So yeah, it's perhaps not the most groundbreaking of plots, but I hope they go for something like this for Rey and Kylo. Doubtlessly they'll be caught up in some dramatic end-of-the-galaxy scenario in the end, anyway, so if there is no time for a full-blown romance plot, well.
If their story is pulled off really meaningfully, there won't be a need to spell it out. I feel like he's at ease with her cause he's overconfident and thinks shes 'just a scavenger' as he repeats over and over. He's fascinated with her because she's somehow at the centre of everything even though she's supposedly a nobody. There's nothing romantic or sexual about it to me, and the novelisation backs this up. There are many chapters from Kylos pov. He's obsessed with her because he's obsessed with finding luke, and thinks she is the key.
Then he becomes aware of her force powers and is determined to find out more about her, since the force had been dormant for so many years. To me, the way he carries her and gets so close is more of a throw back to old horror movies where a monster kidnaps the damsel in distress, but this trope ends up getting inverted when rey fights back and it turns out kylo isnt really the monster he portrays himself as. However, he's very good at psychological intimidation, as we see by reys reaction. Hes trying to break down her mental walls so he can get the info out of her. And it nearly works.
If rey hadnt had the force on her side everything would have gone just as he wanted. You're free to interpret the scene in the way you want, but this is what I personally think the audience was meant to get from their interactions. I feel like a lot of the in favour of this interpretation are based on an underlying assumption that any interaction between a man and a women is inherently sexual/romantic in nature. This is it and it really bothers me. It's also one of the reasons I don't want this ship to happen. A man and a woman can interact, even like or feel compassion for each other, without being attracted to each other. That's definitely possible, what a surprise.I don't really want Rey to be a romantic relationship anyway. She's fine on her own and I think her relationships with the other male characters will be much more interesting if they stay completely platonic. Not odd at all.
I have seen the same thing (except I did not see that line as rapey but as Kylo being a cocky bastard), only to come back from the cinema to read the SW forums' outrage over such opinions. Gradually, I found that many people are angry about it mainly because they think Rey is Kylo's cousin (I don't think she is), which would make any attraction between them kinda icky.I think the difference between Poe's and Rey's interrogation was intentional. I think that the fact the Kylo didn't even nick Rey's skin during their fight was also intentional. And yes, I also think that all of this is significant for the future movies. I am not sure they are going to be a couple in a traditional sense but there is definitely a possibility of Kylo's redemption being inspired by Rey. Vader gave up the dark side for his family.
Kylo has shown us that he is not going to do the same thing. In fact, it was his family that has driven him to the dark side. So who could save him? Kylo is most certainly giving Rey preferential treatment.
He walks through a battlefield carrying her, leaving himself open to attack. He kneels in front of her, takes off his mask for her. The guy has trouble making eye contact with her without the helmet. See right before he says 'You know I can take whatever I want'. That line is delivered in a way that is not even remotely commanding, he doesn't want to hurt her (see the difference between Rey and Poe's capture).
I mean come on now, he looks away quickly and BITES HIS LIP when he delivers that line.He is fascinated with her memories of loneliness when he should be looking for the map. His eyes map her face repeatedly, like he's committing it to memory. He doesn't delve into Poe's deep motivations/wounds at all, or study him intently. We are meant to see the difference between Poe and Rey's capture, even so far as to say that is WHY Poe's interrogation (and character) originally existed, to create a parallel of prisoner treatment.
